A Migori businessman has accused a junior police officer of threatening to kill him.

John Mwita told the Star that the officer based at Itumbe police station, Kisii county has on several occasions threatened to cause him grievous harm.

Mwita said his woes with the officer started after he reported him to his bosses over graft.

"He is after my life because I reported him to the directorate of criminal investigations boss in Nairobi for extorting money from me by planting fake exhibits," he said.

Mwita said so far, due to the frequent death threats, he has reported the matter at Isebania police station under OB Number 13/22/03/2017.

He claimed the officer had managed to extort Sh560,000 from him and his friends before they discovered the cop was only out to blackmail them.

The trader said he was having breakfast with his friends at a Kisii hotel in December last year when the cop stormed in and arrested them.

He said the officers did not disclose any offense they had committed.

"We were arrested at around 10am and were set free at 8pm after we paid the officers," he said.

Mwita said the officers held them hostage and forced them to withdraw money from bank agents.

Those who failed, he said, were forced to spend the night in police cells.

Area DCIO Warui Njuguna said he was not aware of the matter but promised to handle it once he gets official communication.

"I have been away on official duty for some time now. I will be back to the station next week and immediately follow up on the matter," Warui told the Star on phone.
