Nominated MP Oburu Oginga’s bid for Bondo MP has been rejected by the Nyasmwa clan.

Patron Mwai Andiwo and chairman Musa Adiema said the clan will support MP Gideon Ochanda’s reelection and Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo’s Siaya governor bid.

Nyasmwa is one of two clans that make up the Sakwa community, the other is Nyibinya, to which Oburu belongs. Nyasmwa has 23 subclans and 65 per cent of the community’s vote.

Speaking on Sunday at Migiro ACK, Andiwo said since Independence the Nyasmwa have been shortchanged in leadership by the Nyibinya clan.

“Nyibinya clan has used [Nyasmwa] as ladders to climb up elective positions, since the majority of us were either illiterate or semi-illiterate,” he said.

Adiema said they want to teach Oburu a lesson, adding that he has outlived his usefulness.
