Nyamira ODM leaders on Tuesday gave President Uhuru Kenyatta's tour of the region a wide berth.

The lot kept off Uhuru's activities which included the launch of Magwagwa dam and road projects.

Among those who skipped the functions were Governor John Nyagarama and MPs James Gesami (West Mugirango) and Alice Chae (woman representative).

MPs Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) and

Charles Geni (North Mugirango)

are in Canada for official duties.

Borabu MP Ben Momanyi was the only one who attended the function.

The MPs said they were not invited to the functions, Chae dismissing the trip as political.

The woman MP said Uhuru's trip was aimed at

marketing Jubilee Party and trying to undo ODM’s popularity.

"We are not threatened because it is not the first time they are visiting in the name of launching projects," Chae said.

She urged residents to welcome the President but added:

"We are tired of this Jubilee administration. It has done more harm than good."

Bosire said:

"I just learned that the President is in my area. There is no problem with that. I am in Canada on official PAC business."

"He is free to visit any party of the country but it is only fair to respect and inform the area's elected leaders," the MP said in a statement.

Nyagarama's aide, who did not want to be named, said he attend a Council of Governors meeting but did not specify the location.

Speaker Joash Nyamoko said the President's visit was a Jubilee Party affair.

Uhuru is expected to launch projects and address rallies at Magwagwa, Ikonge, Ekerenyo, Nyamira, Nyambaria and Nyansiongo.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae welcomed Uhuru to the county on Wednesday saying he is the President of an indivisible nation.

"We welcome him to Kisii, not only today but at all times," he said. "Much as there are two levels of government, we work together in matters of development."

Kitutu Chache South MP hopeful Anthony Kibagendi said JP may eat into ODM’s votes but only insignificantly.

"Raila is still assured of 80 per cent support but it depends on how nominations will be handled," he said.

"The Opposition is not assured of all the MP and MCA seats. Clan dynamics will also count in the August 8 polls."
