Six new members of the Moi University Council have taken charge and will spearhead the recruitment of a vice chancellor.

Education CS Fred Matiang’i last week appointed Dr Jeremiah Ntoloi, Hamisi Dena, Hilda Muchunku, Elizabeth Obel Lawson, Vincent Choka and Daniel Rono.

Professor Laban Ayiro has been acting VC for the last six months. Ntoloi will be the chairman and will take over from Jenesio Kimanyario, whose tenure has ended. “My tenure expired and I have left the university,” Kimanyario said.

Sources at the university said the new council will soon advertise the position of VC , and start the recruitment process.

Ayiro was appointed in September last year to replace Prof Richard Mibey. This sparked off a row with some leaders from the North Rift led by Governors Jackson Mandago of Uasin Gishu and Alex Tolgos of Elgeyo Marakwet, saying thet preferred a Kalenjin VC.
