Garissa Governor Nathif Jama was wrong to hire a chopper at Sh5 million to oversee relief food distribution in Ijara and Hulugho, National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale has said.
But Jama said Duale should be sure of the amount used before stating it. He did not state the cost of hiring the chopper.
The money could have been used to buy relief food and the governor could have delegated the distribution to the county executive or subcounty administrators to cut on the cost, he added.
On Saturday, Jama used a hired chopper to distribute relief food and open several county projects. By Monday afternoon, he had not returned.
Duale urged residents to “vote Jama out to save the county”.
“It doesn’t make sense at all for the governor to hire a chopper to go to a place that is a two-hour drive,” he said.
Duale spoke on Sunday in Tetu Primary School, Garissa, when he opened a new modern administration block.
But Jama asked Duale to stop criticising him and run for governor if he thinks he can do a better job.
He urged Duale to give the EACC proof on funds misuse.
