More than 25

unroadworthy vehicles

have been impounded in Mombasa.

The crackdown was conducted at the bus terminal in Likoni by the National Transport and Safety Authority.

Deputy director of road safety Hared Hassan said that most of the PSVs did not have speed governors.

This is a

serious offense. Since they take a lot of money from passengers, they should also learn to adhere to the law," Hassan said.

A section of matatu drivers opposed the move arguing that they should have been given time to prepare as some of them are waiting for the inspection to be done, and later on be issued with compliance

certificates.

Omar Jefwa a frequent passenger along the Likoni - Ukunda road supported the crackdown.

He said that most

of the PSVs operating on that route are not road worthy.
