Senators on Tuesday paid tribute to the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua, terming him an exemplary leader who put the interests of the people first.

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi said Gachagua left his mark on devolution for vigorously opposing the misuse of funds.

He cited last year's impeachment motion during which Gachagua told the Senate that Nyeri MCAs ganged up to remove him after he refused to fund what he called their selfish interests.
