A 45-year-old man was lynched at the weekend after neighbors found him defiling a corpse in Molo Township.

Hassan Langat was attacked by irate villagers after he was caught sleeping with the corpse of his 14-year-old daughter.

He died at St Joseph hospital in Elburgon while undergoing treatment.

The class six pupil had succumbed to a brain tumour. Her father reportedly ordered that the body be preserved in a separate room.

Joseph Ngeno, Sarambei sub-location assistant chief, said: "The girl's body was taken to a separate house in line with Kalenjin traditions as the family waited to transfer it to the mortuary."

Residents said the man frequented the house in

the wee hours on

Friday, claiming he was going to check if the girl's body was safe.

"He took long and we decided to check on him. We were shocked to see him pants down," Rose Ruto, one of the neighbours, said.

"Angry neighbours responded to the alarm and attacked him mercilessly. He died while undergoing treatment," she said.

Elders met at the home after the incident to perform cleansing rituals. The man's wife recorded a statement at Mau Summit police post.
