Nominated Senator Emma Mbura has announced that she will defect from the party to Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua's Maendeleo Chap Chap.

Mbura cited frustration in Jubilee despite the provision of "colossal" sums of money to market the ruling party at the Coast, which largely supports Raila Odinga's Cord.

She accused the ruling coalition's leaders of consistently dissuading her from running for the Rabai MP seat in the August 8 poll.

"I have decided to join Maendelo Chap Chap because that is where my supporters have told me to go," she told the Star.

"Jubilee wanted to endorse former JAP chair Nelson Dzuya and politician Amiri Mwinyi but both withdrew from the race."

Mbura accused Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro of holding meetings to plot against her so that she is denied the Jubilee ticket.

"They now want Anthony Kenga - an ODM MCA - to vie against me. This is a clear indication that they would have even stolen the ticket," she said.

The Nominated Senator had threatened to move to the National Super Alliance but may have been advised against the move.

"Why would they be so determined to have a man vie against me? Isn’t that male chauvinism?" Mbura asked during the phone interview.

She expressed pity for those who have decamped from popular parties to Jubilee, signaling the uncertainties that stalk JP at the Coast.

The Senator, who is popular among Rabai women for her philanthropy, said she suspects Jubilee nominations will not be free and fair.

But Suleiman Shahbal, Jubilee hopeful for

Mombasa governor, allayed fears that President Uhuru Kenyatta's outfit will hold sham primaries.

"Why would anyone pre-judge a process that has not even started? We will engage the IEBC to make the primaries as clean as possible," he said.

Mutua was expected to land in Mombasa on Tuesday afternoon to officially welcome the Senator to the party.

Maendeleo Chap Chap has been reaping big from Jubilee following the defection of several MCAs, MPs and governor aspirants.

Embu governor aspirant Lenny Kivuti is one of the high-profile politicians who jumped ship, bolstering Chap Chap’s ratings.
