A brother to a most wanted al Shabaab suspect has been charged with dealing in property belonging to terrorist groups.
Edward Oyoo Keya denied committing the offences between June 2015 and December 2016 at Pumwani highrise estate in Nairobi.
He is said to have collected money as rent from a house belonging to his mother Keya Awuor and sending it to his brother Eric Achayo alias Ibra Salim through Aisha Hussein at Kismayu in Somalia.
Keya is also accused of providing financial and intermediary services by receiving money from rent and sending it to his brother in Somalia.
The funds are believed to have been used to facilitate terrorist acts.
The accused requested the court to grant him more time to go through an affidavit filed by prosecution not to grant him bail.
In the affidavit sworn by Sergeant Gitiye Ibaya of the Anti-terror Police Unity, police insist that Kenya should be denied bail as he is likely to abscond court.
"The investigations indicate that the accused has other associates who he was passing information to and who are still at large hence likely to interfere with investigations,” Ibaya said.
Milimani senior principal magistrate Francis Andayi ordered the accused to be detained for three days.
The matter will be mentioned on February 23.
