Western leaders are divided over amendments to the election regulations that would involve the anti-graft agency clearing candidates for the August 8 polls.
Governors, senators, MPs and MCAs could be disqualified from running for seats if they have undetermined court cases if Parliament approves the amendments.
Lugari MP Ayub Savula said the IEBC wants to usurp powers of the courts since the agency lacks express powers to adjudge anyone corrupt.
Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe said the changes are welcome but there must be a rider that only politicians found guilty by courts should be blocked from running.
