Battle lines have been drawn between NASA and LPK in the scramble for the Budalang’i MP seat.

LPK is headed by former ODM secretary general and incumbent MP Ababu Namwamba.

Jubilee’s chances of clinching the seat are slim, especially with the defection of former Budalang’i MP Raphael Wanjala to ODM.

Wanjala is keen to unseat Namwamba, who wants to run for a third term.Namwamba has been conducting grassroots campaigns to market LPK.

He said Wanjala’s defection is hollow. “We have every reason to welcome him and his team for value addition. He must be allowed to make friendly choices. He could either get on the queue and make our team stronger, or register his candidature to be allowed to lose at nomination since the writing is on the wall,” Namwamba said.

He will get a direct ticket on LPK, though there is no guarantee he will win the seat.

Namwamba has expressed confidence he will recapture the seat by a landslide.

ODM has attracted six aspirants - Wanjala, David Obara, Andrew Nakitare, former Busia finance executive Leonard Obimbira, Albert Gumo and Connie Obuya.

The Jubilee Party aspirants include Alfred Maloba and Mediatrice Wangira.

Deogratius Adundo had initially declared he would seek the ODM ticket, but had a change of heart and will run on the Ford Kenya ticket.
