The West Pokot government has set aside Sh160 million
for bursaries.
Fees for two students from each of the 20 wards will be fully paid.
Speaking to press in Kapenguria on Tuesday, Governor Simon Kachapin said
his administration is committed to improving education standards.
He said he will work to extend the bursary programme to public secondary schools if reelected.
“We campaigned in 2013 and promised to pay school fees for
students joining form one. We did this because we want these students
to come back and develop the county. This bursary programme has been in
my manifesto and it is what devolution is all about,” Kachapin said.
He said the county has focussed on building offices and next year, the focus will be on the education sector.
