A suspected drug trafficker has been arrested at
Moi International Airport in Mombasa
with heroin valued at more than Sh10 million.
The man, identified as Mohamed Jibril Ali, 51,
had concealed the drugs
in his shoe soles.
Mombasa county commander Peterson Maelo
said Ali, was traveling to Dubai and was about to board a Rwandese air plane when he was detected.
"The suspect is a regular traveler to Dubai and we suspect he has been delivering the drugs there. He is under investigation to establish the source of the narcotics," Maelo said.
This comes barely a month after an Ivorian woman was arrested at the same Airport, while carrying heroin valued at more than Sh10 million.
Danho Aude-Bertille, 28, was headed for Abdijan through JKIA when her luggage was found with the drugs.
In 2013,
Elizabeth Owiti,57, was arrested
the Moi International Airport with 4kg of heroin worth Sh11 million.
She had a ticket to Frankfurt through Zanzibar when she was intercepted by anti-narcotics officers.
Police found the drugs wrapped in two parcels weighing 2.5kg and 1.5kg.
The parcels had then been stacked and sealed on the bottom of two different suitcases.
