Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali (pictured) yesterday dismissed media reports that he is among Jubilee Party lawmakers in western defecting to NASA.
Washiali termed the claims as “propaganda from the opposition or other quarters” that will neither benefit perpetrators nor change his firm belief in Jubilee Party.
“I am firm in my decisions. Once I have decided I stand by my decision and there is no reverse. Reports that I support NASA are false. They are just rumors. I am comfortable in Jubilee,” he said.
“So, everyone is decamping? They have also claimed Eugene is defecting but do they know my stand? Some may be scared to defect but I’m not part of them,” Washiali said.
He added that none of his Jubilee Party colleagues in western have expressed interest of quiting.
Washiali, JP’s point man in Kakamega county, said he has registered many party members in his constituency and therefore cannot defect.
The legislator also said he targets 7,000 new registrations in the ongoing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission mass voter listing.
However, he expressed concern that the turnout is low.
Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa on Thursday also denied claims that he met Ford Kenya leader and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula in a Nairobi hotel to chart a “political strategy.”
Wamalwa, in a statement through his personal assistant Kizito Temba, said he has no plans of defecting from the Jubilee Party to join a “disorganised opposition”, whose political ideologies do not match his.
