Lamu police seized a haul of

bhang

with a street value of about Sh172,000 in a crackdown on Monday.

The

314 big rolls of bhang were confiscated alongside

several sachets

of cocaine and heroin worth an unknown amount of money.

Police also found a cache of weapons including knives, machetes and clubs in the operation in various parts of Lamu and Tchundwa islands

“We are yet to establish the street value of the cocaine and heroin," said

county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri.

Kanyiri added that gangs were using the weapons in attacks on members of the public.

Six suspects - five men and a woman - were arrested in the operation that Kanyiri said will continue.

The commissioner praised police for their efforts saying drug trafficking among the youths was the county's biggest headache.

Among the areas police are focusing on are

Kijitoni, Kashmir, Wiyoni,

Tchundwa, Mbwajumwali, Faza and Pate in Lamu East.

Kanyiri urged residents to give them any helpful information.
