Candidate for IEBC chairperson David Mukii Mereka, 64, has withdrawn from the race.
He told the selection panel that he took the decision to give chance for younger applicants.
Mereka, a veteran lawyer said he would be glad if the position is taken by a female nominee.
"I hope in respect to the gender rule the select panel will nominate a lady to fill in the slot i have left open," he said.
"I have decided to step aside so i can give room for younger generations to take charge of the IEBC commission," he said.
Mereka, from Muranga was among the
five candidates eyeing the position of chairperson of the IEBC.
