President Uhuru Kenyatta should declare his interest in the Pan Paper Mills in Webuye, two ODM MPs have said.
Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi and his Nyando counterpart Fred Outa questioned why Uhuru used taxpayer money to launch a private investment.
“As the President launches the Pan Paper Mills we want him to declare his personal interest in this company,” Wandayi said at a press conference at Parliament Buildings yesterday.

“The public can’t finance the President to launch a private company, that is a big scandal in the making,” he said.
The two MPs also alleged a scheme by the government to privatise the Sh3.9 billion Kisumu mall. Despite its completion, the multibillion-shilling investment is yet to be handed over from the contractor. The financing Co-operative Bank is yet to be paid its dues, despite interest accumulating at Sh145 million per day.
The Devolution and Planning ministry has turned to the Attorney General for a legal opinion before the handover, a move the two MPs say is part of the scheme to delay the process to facilitate privatisation. “We can only deduce that this procrastination is to have the property auctioned,” the MPs said.
