Don’t force Rosemary on Kibra, says Owalo

Former Raila Odinga aide Eliud Owalo is on the warpath with the family of the ODM leader. He says there is a plot to deny him the Kibra ODM ticket in favour of Raila’s daughter Rosemary.
Owalo was Raila’s presidential campaign manager in 2013. In a letter to Raila dated December 15, he said there are verifiable reports on the plot.
ODM aspirants have been anxious that the party primaries may not be fair. Rosemary has not declared her interest. However, her political manoeuvres in the constituency previously held by her father have left tongues waging.
Raila’s past two presidential campaigns have been riddled with chaotic nominations and the Cord leader has assured aspirants the mistakes of the past will not be repeated.
Owalo, a management consultant, is seeking to topple current MP Ken Okoth and is said to have opened his wallet as the 2017 general election draws near.
He pleaded with Raila to accord the people of Kibra their “inalienable democratic right” to elect leaders of their choice for all elective positions.
ODM stands to lose moral ground for demanding credible polls of the IEBC if it cannot manage its own internal primaries, Owalo warned.
This is not the first complaint Owalo is lodging against the ODM leadership. In September, he warned Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Raila’s second in command, against endorsing candidates in Nairobi.
“I advise that you devote your weekend’s political activities in Nairobi solely and exclusively to the purposes of marketing Raila Odinga 2017,” Owalo told Joho.
