Violence erupted during the Jubilee Party delegates’ election in Laikipia county on Wednesday, leaving one person injured.
Trouble started when aspirants from Laikipia West subcounty demanded

their area receive more seats because of the large number of voters.
Laikipia East MP Anthony Mutahi said each of the three constituencies in the county would pick six delegates, while one seat would be held by a person living with disability.
When people living with disabilities were called to vote, Moses Nteere from Laikipia East constituency won, which angered the Laikipia West group.
Laikipia West delegates started shouting, forcing Mutahi to call off the election.
“Now that you do not want to maintain decorum, I have called off the whole exercise and those elected will be notified later,” he said.
The delegates from Laikipia East, West and North were to elect regional officials. Former Laikipia West MP Nderitu Muriithi termed the exercise “shoddy” and said the area about 100,000 registered voters.
