Campaigns, project launches leave Uhuru with 2 days rest in December

President Uhuru Kenyatta will only rest on December 25-26 this holiday as he has lined up a series of development tours to Western, Rift Valley, Eastern and Coast.

Uhuru is expected to launch infrastructure, education, health, water and energy projects, aimed at improving lives.

He will also address several rallies as part of campaigns for re-election next year and receive

the report on the Rio Olympics fiasco, that will be followed by appropriate action.

State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said on Sunday that the President wants the people to directly tell him of their concerns.

He noted the President will take the tours with

senior government officials, local leaders, professionals and grassroots opinion leaders.

Among the roads Uhuru will launch are Kibwezi-Mutomo-Kitui-Usweini-Taikuru,

Machakos-Kenol-Ngoleni-Kaani-Mutituni-Kaseve and Mombasa Road–Daystar/Lukenya.

Others are

Machakos–Lukenya-Kenani-Athi River,

Kasikeu-Upete, Kautadini-Mavia-Kimakiu-Salama bridge, Tawa-Nguluni-Itangini and Thwake bridge.

"The President will also highlight government efforts in bringing water closer to homes in Ukambani. Thwake Dam project – one of the Vision 2030 flagship projects - is among those that the head of state will commission," said

The dam is for the supply of water to Makueni, Kitui and Machakos counties, and Konza Techno city .

The project, which has an irrigation component, is expected to provide water for 1.3 million Kenyans and generate electricity.

The President will also launch the Masinga-Kitui Water and Sanitation project, which will provide water for 180,000 residents of Kitui town and connect 60,000 people to the sewerage system.

He will also commission the Kiambere-Mwingi water project and check progress at Yata canal.

On

December 8, Uhuru will launch this years '16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence' by activating GBV hotline 1195.

The campaign by the Gender ministry and the UN,

dubbed 'Jitokeze' , encourages every Kenyan to fight against GBV, Female Genital Mutilation and child marriage.

Gender Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki will announce the five-point plan to combat GBV - prevention, partnership, programming, protection and prosecution.

The President will tour Western from December 15 for two days, to reopen Pan Paper Mills in Webuye as promised. He will tour other parts of the region to oversee ongoing development projects.

On December 20, the President will head to Nakuru to launch the new-look NYS through which thegovernment expects to directly address issues affecting the nation.

After the NYS event, Uhuru will head to Mombasa for New Year celebrations and later tour Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Tana River and Taita Taveta counties. Uhuru concluded a successful

last week.

Manoah refuted claims that the President was using the development projects to launch his 2017 re-election bid, and reitereated commitment to credible elections.

He said the President will continue to engage players from all sectors of the economy. These include the executive, Parliament, the Judiciary, media, private sector, religious leaders, civil society, foreign missions and other development partners.
