The National Gender and Equality Commission has urged universities to address sexual and gender violence.

NGEC acting chief executive Paul Kuria said the commission has developed studies to determine the economic costs of the SGBV from the survivors perspective.

He spoke after a three-day public policy conference to address sexual and gender-based violence at the University of Nairobi.

Kuria said more resources should be allocated to respond to SGBV and rehabilitation of first-time offenders.

“Universities should pursue innovative strategies through ICT to detect and prevent SGBV in universities,” he said.
