Probe rampant corruption in Kilifi, Mung'aro tells EACC

Kilifi MPs have threatened to mobilise residents to protest against the EACC's "failure" to take action against corrupt officials in the county government.

Gideon Mung'aro (Kilifi North) and Peter Shehe (Ganze) said on Tuesday that they will lead residents in camping at the county's offices if the commission does not act.

They also expressed concern that EACC officials may have been pocketed by authorities in the county government.

The MP also accused area Governor Amason Kingi of procuring land at Mtwapa Bus Park at a cost of more than Sh300 million, under questionable circumstances.

"There are many other corruption cases and there is evidence," he said.

He said residents were tired of hearing about graft reports that are not concluded.

The Education department is under probe for failing to spend at least Sh1.2 billion earmarked for projects that were to be undertaken in the past three years.

The EACC is also investigations the alleged theft of Sh30 million from county government accounts.
