Marathon runner Rita Jeptoo's competition ban has been doubled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Jeptoo, 33, was banned from competitions for two years at the beginning of 2015 after failing a drugs test.

She said at the time that she may have been prescribed some banned substances at a local hospital after a road accident.

On July 6, the lawyer representing the suspended athlete a day before the start of a hearing into her doping case at the court.

In a letter to the CAS, lawyer Sarah Ochwada said several obstacles would hinder her from defending Jeptoo.

Jeptoo, the Boston and Chicago marathon winner, was suspended for two years in October 2014 after failing an out-of-competition test for the banned blood-booster EPO.

Hers became the most high-profile positive test from Kenya, which has seen a raft of doping cases in the past two years.
