Cord leader Raila Odinga is not attending this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations as he left the country on Thursday morning for London.

Raila is set to deliver a public lecture at the London Metropolitan University during the opening of the London Political Summit.

"I am, however, in solidarity with fellow citizens in Kenya and around the globe as we reflect on th state of our nation on this Mashujaa day," he said in a statement.

The Cord leader will address the summit on 'The Place of the Opposition in a Hostile Political Environment'.

Coalition co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang'ula will be among officials attending the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos county.

This is the first time the celebrations are being held outside Nairobi county in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta's commitment to devolve national holidau celebrations to counties.
