The Meru Cooperatives, Enterprise Development and Tourism department have donated Sh3.7 million milking cans to seven dairy cooperative societies.

County officer Edward Munoru urged farmers to invest in dairy farming as a business. He spoke when he handed over the equipment to the Nyambene Arimi Cooperative Society in Maua ward. Munoru stressed the need to support small-scale farmers to produce high-quality milk for better prices.

“Cooperative societies exist to solve certain common problems,” he said.

Munoru said cooperatives help farmers have their voices heard. They help solve production issues, strengthen product marketing and value addition. He said the county will continue to protect farmers’ interests.
