Five judges have been singled out for stellar performance.

The Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board in its final report says head of High Court’s Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division Hedwig Ong’udi stands out as the most impressive, competent and dedicated to her work. Also commended were judges Michieka Omaiyo, Angela Thuku, Yusuf Shikanda and Abdulqadir Lorot.

Court of Appeal judges found unsuitable were Sammuel Bosire, Joseph Nyamu, Emmanuel O’Kubasu and Riaga Omollo. The four were among the first to be vetted and dismissed. Applications by those who wanted a review of their dismissals failed.

The ACECD division was formed in May to deal with with graft cases. Ong’udi is the first judge to head the division and is being deputised by judge Lydia Achode, formerly of the Family Division.

High-profile cases she handles include those of former Nairobi county Finance boss Jimmy Kiamba, who is accused of embezzling about Sh1 billion between January and October 2014. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission sought to have his accounts frozen. Other cases include those of Senator David Musila and KCAA chairman Samuel Phogisio.
