Kajiado South MP Katoo ole Metito has suggested that Maasai Mara University in Narok be renamed in honour of former Cabinet minister William ole Ntimama.

]The proposed name is Ntimama Maasai Mara University.

Metito said this will recognise the efforts of the former Narok North MP in fighting for the Maasai community.

Ntimama died on September 1 in his Melili home and will be buried today.

The MP was responding to the pleas by leaders who wanted the university be named after the Maasai kingpin.

He spoke during inter-denominational prayers for Ntimama at his Motonyi home in Narok town on Monday.

In attendance were Cord leader Raila Odinga, Governors David Nkedianye (Kajiado) and Samuel Tunai (Narok), Narok Senator Stephen Ntutu.

Also present were MPs Elijah Memusi (Kajiado Central), Gideon Konchellah (Kilgoris), Ken Kiloku (Narok East), Korei ole Lemein (Narok South), Moitalel ole Kenta (Narok North), Patrick Ntutu (Narok West) and Soipan Kudate (Narok Woman representative).

“The locals can petitione the National Assembly and the matter taken to the Education committee for consideration. They will write a report before bringing the motion to the floor of the House. Once adopted and approved, it will be sent to Education CS for action,” Metito said.

He said another other option is for the residents to directly petition the Education CS who can issue a directive for a change of the name. Cord leader Raila Odinga urged the Narok people to conserve the Mau forest in honour of Ntimama.
