Two people died on Monday in separate accidents on the busy Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road, paralysing traffic flow on the route.

In the first incident, a teenager selling sugarcane was crushed by a truck at Kihoto estate, some three kilometers from Naivasha town.

The boy was selling the produce when the fast speeding truck hit and killed him as his colleagues watched in horror.

David Mwangi, a witness, said that the teenager was crossing the road to sell the sugarcane to a passing motorist.

Mwangi added that the driver of the truck was new on the route and did not realize that there was a speed bump at the area.

"A group of youths take advantage of the speed bump to sell sugarcane to motorists who slow down but

was a bad day as one of them was hit by a speeding truck," he said.

And in the second case, a man was killed near Longonot town in a hit and run incident involving a salon car.

The body of the man who did not have any identification documents was found by the roadside by members of the public who informed the police.

Joseph Njoroge, one of the residents who discovered the body, said that the man had wounds on his head and legs.

Njoroge said that police moved in and took the body to Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary as investigations started on the matter.

"The driver of the truck has recorded a statement with police while we are investigating the second case which involved a hit and run driver," a police officer who received the reports of the accidents said.
