Harambee Starlets got off their campaign for Cecafa 2016 women championships title on a winning note after beating hosts Uganda 4-0 in a one-sided affair in Kampala yesterday.

Starlets replicated their 4-0 drubbing on the then visitors (Uganda) in a friendly played in Kenya last July.

Captain Mary Kinuthia and Esse Akida ensured their names on the scoresheet as Vivian Corazon completed the scores.

Mary Kinuthia scored the opener in the 21st minute after a wonderful cross from forward Neddy Okoth Atieno going into the break with 1-0 lead before the Starlets came back to finish the game.

Sensing dangers, the hosts reverted to defensive play to avoid conceding more goals in the first half and in a bid to slow down Akida and Achieng.

The Kenyans came back from the tunnel guns blazing; thwarting any attempts from Uganda’s Winnie Babirye, Laki Otandeka and Hasifa Nassuna at their own backyard.

Akida scored Kenya’s second goal in the 49th minute and Vivian Corazon was on target 26 minutes later with the third.

Akida then completed her brace with one minute to go to hand Kenya victory in their first Group ‘A’ match of the tournament.

Earlier on, Burundi had flogged Zanzibar 10-1 in the same group, giving the latter a huge victory in the first match.
