Police on Sunday dispersed irate youths who had attacked Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo at Nyadorera, Siaya county.

The MP, who was accompanied by his Rarieda counterpart Nicholas Gumbo, was accosted by youths allied to Siaya .

The group, armed with machetes and clubs, smashed the legislator's car window.

This was after he linked the governor to the controversy around the lease of Yala swamp to investors.

The MP was on his way to Sidundo in Usonga for a political rally when the youths, mostly supporters of the governor and area MCA, accosted them at Nyadorera.

Midiwo, who was from a fund drive in Siaya at St Peters cathedral church, was also in the company of Siaya politician .

Oduol was Rasanga's competitor in the 2013 general election and later during the by-election staged by the businessman's petition.

Oblivious of what was awaiting them, they made a stopover at Nyadorera to address a crowd that had gathered at the trading centre.

While on top of their vehicle, a youth from the crowd hit Midiwo’s car, breaking the right side window.

Hell broke loose, forcing the bodyguards attached to Gumbo and Midiwo to shoot on air to disperse the crowd.

Midiwo was forced to cut short his speech as he sped off ending the impromptu rally at Nyandorera.

After escaping the attack unhurt, Midiwo and his team proceeded to Sidundo where they again met another group of youths who had barricaded the road.

They sought refuge at Oduol’s place, after which the Rarieda MP left unceremoniously to attend another function.

However, the Sidundo rally went on as planned after Midiwo ordered youths from Gem to accompany him in the tour of the constituency.

While addressing the press at Oduol’s place, Midiwo vowed to revenge, mentioning that he will not report the incident to the police.

"I will fix my car without involving the perpetrators of the attack," he said, a statement that signals the bruising battle that awaits the race for Siaya governor in 2017.
