Police are looking for Mombasa Republican Council chairman Omar Mwamnuadzi, who is believed to have fled to Tanzania.
The MRC chairman allegedly moved with his new wife Riziki Zawadi.
A senior police officer said Kenyan police have circulated a report on his whereabouts in Tanzania and are working closely with their Tanzania counterparts to arrest Mwamnuadzi.
Mwamnuadzi is believed to be extending the group’s activities in Tanzania. “Our officers have already moved into Tanzania and we are investigating his hideouts to arrest him,” the officer said.
An intelligence report says Mwamnuadzi sneaked out of Kenya two months ago after marrying Zawadi, a Tanzanian. The report urges police to be on the lookout for him as he is suspected to have gone for militia training in Tanzania.
The report further says Mwamnuadzi is a threat to national security and anyone who sees him should report to the police. He is also being sought by a Mombasa court after he jumped bail in a case in which he is charged with being a member of MRC.
This comes shortly after MRC spokesman Richard Lewa said they will be recruiting members in the six counties at the Coast.
