One killed, five injured after plane bursts into flames in Naivasha

A Polish tourist died and her four counterparts from the UK were injured after a six-seater plane crashed in Naivasha on Thursday.

The Kenyan pilot was also seriously injured following the midday accident within Sanctuary Farm along Moi South Lake road.

The plane is said to have crashed five minutes after take off, killing Beremka Siefanska on the spot.

A relative who declined to be named said the plane started spinning in the sky before crashing a few kilometres from the airstrip before bursting into flames.

"On crashing, four of the survivors were thrown out of the plane, while the pilot who was seriously burnt was rescued later," he said.

Katie Edward, Nicola Price, Tobias Price and Oliver Price were treated at Naivasha subcounty hospital and discharged.

But pilot George Edward was referred to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

Naivasha police boss Titus Munyoki said they were awaiting investigations, by officers from the aviation department, on the cause of the crash.

The group was in Naivasha to mourn the death of a friend last Sunday.

The accident took place while they toured the lakeside town.
