Series leaders Homeboyz RFC have been drawn alongside Nakuru, Mean Machine and debutants Nanyuki Jackals in Pool ‘A’ of the Nanyuki Sevens this weekend at the Nanyuki Sports Club.

Quins, who are placed second on the log on nine points behind the deejays, have a date with Mwamba, Nondies and Catholic Monks in Pool ‘B’.

Kabras and Impala renew rivalry in Pool ‘C’ and have a tricky contest in the shape of Blak Blad and Kisii RFC.

Strathmore Leos clash with KCB, Comras and Western Bulls in Pool ‘D’.

In the second division category, Makueni face Eastlanders, Kericho and Nanyuki Jackals II in Pool ‘E’. In Pool ‘F’, Menengai Oilers meet KPA Eldoret, Stormers and Kiambu RFC,

Christ the Answer Ministries (CITAM) Kisumu take on Egerton, Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) and Laikipia University in Pool ‘G’.

Mount Kenya University lead the hunt in Pool ‘H’ alongside Northern Suburbs, Technical University of Kenya and Nyahururu Brumbies, Mt. Kenya University Nairobi, Nakuru Technical and Dedan Kimathi in Pool I while Pool ‘J’ will feature Daystar Falcons, Webuye, Embu and Molo.

The top two teams from each pool qualify for the main cup quarter-finals with the third and fourth placed sides being relegated to the bowl category on the second day of competition.

Speaking after the draw was announced, Homeboyz coach Simon Odongo termed it a tricky pool but said their focus was on the title.

“Day One is tricky. We cant underestimate any team because the game has become competitive. Nakuru are a threat; Mean Machine will want to prove a point and we don’t know anything against Nanyuki Jackals. They are an unknown quantity,” added Odongo.

Homeboyz have amassed 82 points from four tournaments. They are expected to welcome back internationals Oscar Ayodi and Augustine Lugonzo although Odongo noted the will have to fight for their starting positions.

“Our new signings Charles Omondi and Tony Onyango with Cyprian Kuto have been excellent. Therefore returning internationals will definitely face a fight to get into the squad,” he added.

Odongo said nothing has been won yet and has urged his boys to stay focused with two tournaments remaining. “I have asked the players to focus on the goal of winning the overall title because its still a battle out there. Quins, Impala and Strathmore will not make life easy for us in the upcoming tournaments so we must be consistent and work even harder for the next fortnight,” he added
