Raila frustrated my 2013 MP bid, Matungu legislator says

Matungu MP David Were lashed at ODM leader Raila Odinga for frustrating his during the 2013 general election.

He tore into the ODM leadership saying it embraces the ideology of dictatorship and oppression of party members.

Were also downplayed assurances by Raila that the party's nominations will be free and fair and told allied MPs as well as MCAs to prepare to lose their seats.

"I suffered the same fate in last elections after I was frustrated by Raila. I don’t believe the party has changed its operations," he said on Monday.

"Raila frustrated my candidature and up to date, he still believes that I rigged my way into parliament," Were, who led his supporters to defect to New Ford Kenya in 2013, said.

The legislator spoke at a time Raila county, having addressed political rallies at the region in July to consolidate his support base.

The opposition leader on Monday met delegates at Manyulia, Shiatsala, Butere town, Sabatia and Bukura in Butere sub-county before holding a major rally at Khwisero sports ground.

In July, Raila traversed the region when he started his tour from Vihiga, Luanda, Budalang’i, Busia, Matungu, Shianda, Mumias town and wind up at Musanda.

During the tour, there were pockets of , some championed by former ODM national youth leader Rashid Mohamed over the Mumias Sugar debacle.

And while he handed over a CDF-funded bus to Indangalasia secondary school, Matungu constituency, Were said majority of Kakamega MPs have already supporting Jubilee.

He expressed optimism that Jubilee will carry the day in the region. The MP said President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto's development record have been felt on the ground.

He said New Ford Kenya, UDF and other parties allied to Jubilee were in the process of identifying delegates to attend the Jubilee Party merger slated for this weekend.

"MPs Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani), Malulu Injendi (Malava) and myself are coming up with lists of delegates who will attend the meeting," Were said.

The MP however complained that the slots given to each county for each affiliate party were too limited.

He asked members to remain patient saying there were several activities lined up before the next general elections.

"If you miss to attend the merger function, you will be considered for another activity" Were said, noting that the delegate's lists will consider regional and gender balance.
