Mwai Kibaki, Olympic Games top Kenya's August Google searches

Searches related to the 2016 Olympic Games, the English Premier League and former

were the most dominant on Google in Kenya in August.

Olympic-related searches occupied eight of the 10 most trending searches under the general category.

Kenya won 13 medals, (six gold, six silver and a bronze) in the Rio games despite scandals concerning two officials who were sent home.

To enable Kenyans and the rest of the world keep tabs on the games, Google enhanced the search experience by rolling out the Search Olympic One-boxes.

This made it easy for people to find details including the events schedule, information on athletes, medal counts, trending topics and the Trends Olympic Hub that highlighted key moments in the game.

The English Premier League (EPL) came second and was followed by 84-year-old Kibaki who fell ill and is being treated in South Africa.

Other trending searches were Spanish striker

Lucas Perez, who will be signed to the Arsenal Football Club at a cost of £50 million, according to coach Arsene Wenger. Arsenal has the second largest following in Kenya after Manchester United.

David Rudisha, who came sixth and was followed by

19-year-old American gymnast

Simone Biles, who became the individual all-around, vault and floor gold medalist.

Ezekiel Kemboi, , who was stripped of a bronze medal for a lane infringement also featured in Kenya's most trending searches.

The South African athlete suffers from hyperandrogenism, a condition that causes her body to generate three times as much testosterone as the average woman.

She was one of the most talked-about athletes of the Olympic Games.

People also turned to Google to find answers to questions including ‘What is KBRR?’. This search was prompted by President Uhuru Kenyatta's signing of a bill capping bank interest rates.

The Kenya Banks' Reference Rate is a uniform base lending rate that enables consumers to compare the pricing of loan products.

Other searches in the category were '

‘What is climate change’ and 'what is wudu', the washing ritual ritual carried out by Muslims before prayer.

Kenyans also sought to know the meaning of 'WCW', which stands for 'Woman Crush Wednesday', a popular hash tag used on social media platforms.

They also searched for ‘what is a blogger’, ‘what is nauseous' and ‘what is a casserole'.

In the ‘How to’ category, trending searches included ‘how to make a girl like you,’ 'how to know a girl is into you’ and

‘how to play Pokemon go’, the augmented reality game, which is unavailable in Kenya.

Other searches were 'how to get tall’, 'how to treat stretch marks’ and ‘wow to make strawberry ice cream’.
