The National Assembly Committee on Constituency Development Fund yesterday said the law should be amended to allow the national government to directly finance projects.

The MPs, who met Treasury CS Henry Rotich at Parliament Buildings, said constituencies should be allowed to make project proposals to the Treasury to receive direct funding.

Last month, the High Court barred Rotich from releasing more than Sh25 billion CDF cash, but in the current budget, the government allocated Sh34.5 billion to the fund. In February last year, CDF was declared unconstitutional by the High Court.

The MPs said the government should clear Sh4.3 billion arrears from 2011-12. But Rotich told the committee chaired by Eldama Ravine MP Moses Lessonet the money has been released to the CDF board.
