Bishop Margaret Wanjiru is confident she will be nominated as the Jubilee aspirant for the Nairobi governor's seat.

"The President has made an official statement that the nominations to be conducted by IEBC will be free and fair so I want to categorically state that I will not be number two to anyone,” she said on Tuesday.

She dismissed claims that there is division among Jubilee candidates eyeing the seat ahead of the 2017 general election.

"There is always healthy competition and as a result weak candidates tend to raise unnecessary fears and anxiety," she said.

Wanjiru made her remarks during an interview with the Star.

The former Starehe MP said she intends to stick with Jubilee even if she does not win the nomination, adding that it is the only party with clear ideologies.

"Those who are praying that I fail at the nominations so that I run to ODM - let them be told that I am in Jubilee to stay," she said.

She also condemned the disruption of a political rally by rowdy youths allegedly affiliated to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko.

Wanjiru and Water CS Eugene Wamalwa were presiding over the event at Dandora on Saturday when the youths stormed the venue.

The rally was held to popularise Wamalwa's bid for the city's top job next year.

Wanjiru said Nairobi county’s poor leadership was to blame for the rising hooliganism.

She accused some leaders of taking advantage of the youth to disrupt meetings organised by their competitors.

“It is very unfortunate that our meeting in Dandora was disrupted and the rowdy youth robbed people’s phones and handbags,” she said.

"I want to appeal to all the leaders to respect meetings organised by other people. [You will not necessarily] be given a chance to speak in every meeting you have been invited to," Wanjiru added.

Eight candidates have declared interest in the city's governor's seat in the coming election and Jubilee appears to be split over the preferred candidate.

They include Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru and nominated MP Johnson Sakaja.

On Friday, party leaders met to forge a working formula. But the arrangement flopped as Sakaja, Sonko and Waweru snubbed the meeting.
