Sonko to appear in court over MRC leader's whereabouts

Nairobi senator Mike Sonko is expected in court on Tuesday to explain the whereabouts of MRC leader Omar Hamisi Mwamnuadzi.

Sonko was summoned after Mwamnuadzi failed to show up during a hearing of his case in Mombasa.

Sonko stood surety for the MRC leader who is facing a charge of being in possession of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition.

A Mombasa court had granted Mwamnuadzi release on a Sh10 million bond after he had been at Shimo la Tewa Prison for about two months.

The prosecution made an application for the warrant against Mwamnuadzi to be issued, saying medical documents presented to court claiming the accused had been hospitalised were not genuine.

Earlier in August, Sonko had also been asked to after Mwamnuadzi absconded a hearing.
