A majority of Kenyans want President Uhuru Kenyatta to consult opposition leader Raila Odinga when appointing the new team to preside over the .

study released on Tuesday showed that 67.3 per cent of Kenyans hold the opinion that Raila's input would help in the appointments that the President makes.

But in Central Kenya, 53.9 per cent

said the President should not consult with the opposition leader.

The study also found that 48 per cent of the respondents believe IEBC needs to be reconstituted, while 50.8 per cent believe the commission did not allocate enough time for the mass voter registration conducted in February.

At the same time, 49.8 per cent do not support the proposed immunity of the current IEBC commissioners from prosecution for the wrongs done during their tenure.

The study also indicated that 63.3 per cent of Kenyans are willing to participate in the while 36.7 per cent would not take part in elections.

They blame voter apathy on the lack of trust in the electoral processes.

Nairobi, North Eastern, Western and Coast regions have the highest proportion of Kenyans who expressed unwillingness; most of them being youths.

For the coming elections, 80.5 per cent of Kenyans want persons with questionable character to be barred from holding elective and appointive public offices.

At least 77.7 per cent further want candidates for public offices to disclose the sources of their campaign cash.

Some 75.2 per cent want political parties to disclose the amount of money they spend in their campaigns.

A third of Kenyans, constituting 35.1 per cent, think the 2017 polls could be marred by violence.

Western, Nyanza and Nairobi regions had the highest proportion of respondents who think the country may experience violence at 55.5 per cent, 51.8 per cent and 49.5 per cent respectively.

The survey was commissioned by Africog and conducted by Infotrak and Kenyans for Peace with Truth and Justice.

It was conducted between May 31 and June 8, with a sample base of 1,500 respondents.
