Three northern Kenya MPs yesterday dared their colleagues who have threatened to impeach Sports CS Hassan Wario to file a motion.

Addressing a press conference at Parliament Building, Mohamed Shidiye (Lagdera), Roba Duba (Moyale) and Ahmed Abass (Ijara) accused some legislators of being “paid to impeach hardworking ministers”.

MPs Alfred Keter, Peter Kaluma and Wesley Korir are among those who pledged to lobby for Wario’s impeachment if President Uhuru Kenyatta does not intervene.

“We are ready for anything. Let them come. We have seen people come with impeachment motions just for publicity,” Shidiye said.

Roba said, “Some people are paid to push others out of office. It is not unusual. What they are raising does not meet the threshold

to impeach the CS. Those on the payroll should take the blame game elsewhere.”

The legislators criticised Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba for demanding Wario’s resignation. They called him “a busybody with no moral grounds” to talk about anyone’s resignation.

At the weekend, Namwamba, a former Sports minister, told Wario to take responsibility for the fiasco in Rio.

He urged Uhuru to take action against Wario to stop further mismanagement of sports.

“Politicians pick on anything for publicity. Namwamba should stop condemning people,” Roba said.

Political brokers are misadvising Namwamba to push for Wario’s sacking so he is appointed, they said.

“He is a gun for hire.

Wario is not culpable in any misdeed. He is not responsible for any misdeeds. The CS has numerous achievements and is a man of his word,” Shidiye said.

“Ababu should be the last person to talk about integrity when we know the corruption and mismanagement issues raised when he was chair of a [House] committee.”

The furious legislators, however, urged the government to act against

embattled chef-de-mission Stephen Soi and other Nock officials.
