A 25-year-old boda boda rider committed suicide on Saturday after his wife denied him sex.

Jesse Gatero was found hanging from the roof of his rented house in Shauri Moyo, about an hour after he was involved in a dispute over his conjugal rights with his 23-year-old wife.

Cecilia Wanjiku told Shauri Moyo police that Gatero arrived home drunk on Saturday 2am.

The mother of one said her husband demanded to have sex but she declined because she was on her monthly period.

Gatero is alleged to have turned violent, forcing Wanjiku to flee to a neighbour's house for safety.

She returned to the house about 45 minutes later and found Gatero had committed suicide by hanging himself with bedsheets.

News of Gatero's death was received with shock by fellow boda boda riders in Shauri Moyo.

They described him as a friendly and well composed man.
