Two police officers arrested on Friday over the murder of a man last week will be charged in court on Monday.

Fredrick Ngandi was killed under a hail of bullets while at Mwingi Level 4 hospital where he was undergoing treatment for gunshot wounds.

His family has accused rogue police officers for involvement in the murder.

His elder brother, Nicholas Mukando said they are awaiting an explanation from the police over the gang-style murder.

Mukando said the family would want to believe that the police are not involved but needed some clarifications on some issues.

Prior to his admission at Mwingi hospital, Ngandi had been carjacked in Majengo, Kitui town at 8.30am while in the company of a female friend.

The attackers claimed they were police officers and forced him into their white car.

According to a witness, Ngandi was driven to Ukasi area where his attackers shot him several times.

Ngandi - a second-hand shoes dealer in Kitui - was hospitalised after he was shot at the back of the head, on his left cheek and left ribs.

He was first taken to Ukasi health centre, after which police took him to Mwingi hospital where the gunmen killed him.

Police said they collected 17 spent cartridges of 9mm bullets at the hospital.

His family has questioned why the assailants were allowed into the hospital after visiting hours, and why Ngandi was not guarded by police.
