Gor Mahia were bundled out of the GOtv Shield tournament after losing by a solitary goal to Nzoia United yesterday in Mumias Sunday.

Midfielder Ernest Wendo handled the ball inside the box and Edgar Nzano rose to place it past keeper Boniface Oluoch in the 30th minute.

Gor Mahia have fired their goalkeeper trainer Mathews Ottamax, it is understood.

The former Kenyan international was shown the door following a disagreement with head coach Brazilian Ze Maria.

Ottamax has taken to his social media platform to confirm the latest news.

Ottamax wrote, “A blank firing coach decides to fire his goalkeeping coach...maybe this will solve his scoring problems! Mine is to say a BIG THANK YOU to Gor Mahia players, staff, the executive office and our loving fans for everything we achieved as a family during the three and a half seasons I was with you. I remain loyal to my Mother Club.”

Sources within the club have revealed that Ottamax was relieved off his duties on Friday as the team was preparing to depart for Mumias where they were scheduled to face Nzoia United in the round of 16 of the GOtv Shield competition.

When reached for comment, Ottamax confirmed he has already been shown the door, and further explained the reason behind it.

“He (Ze Maria) told me on the face that I am not in the travelling party, and that my working relationship with the club is over. He even went further to commission one of the senior players to find a replacement.

Things have not been smooth since his arrival, he has always overlooked me and his assistant Tom Ogweno, confronting us over petty issues. What pains me most is the fact he values his friends at work more than he even values us.

“He has always used bitter words against us in front of the players, and wants to show how superior he is. Yes I am out, but Gor Mahia is my team and I will never stop supporting it. This man Ze Maria is dividing the team.”

K’Ogalo have found it rough in the second leg, winning just two of the seven matches played in the SportPesa Premier League.
