JSC complies with court order, to vet 'rejected' CJ applicants

Controversial lawyer will be among those who will be interviewed for the Chief Justice post.

In a statement, acting Judicial Service Commission chair Margaret Kobia said that they will comply with the .

Earlier, an advertisement shortlisting candidates for the position of Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and Supreme Court judge.

The court directed that the interviews be only carried out after JSC reconsiders applicants who were left out of the list.

Justice George Odunga ruled that JSC cannot make any recommendations to the President on the appointments until candidates who were left out are reconsidered.

The seven judges who were left out included Andrew Kongani, Justice (Rtd) Aaron Ringera,

David Waisiko,

David Mwaure,

Hon Prof Justice Jackton Ojwang,

Lucy Wanja Julius.

The interviews have been slated for September 5 and will run until September 13.

Kobia added that the commission will publish the revised schedule of interviews for the positions of Deputy Chief Justice and Supreme Court Judge.

The public will also be invited to give their views on the candidates.

The CJ shortlist - of six out of 14 applicants - that announced on Tuesday, July 7 included Court of Appeal judges Alnashir Visram and David Maraga.
