The successful hosting of the sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Kenya affirms the close partnership between Africa and Japan, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.
The President pointed out that the increased cooperation and enhanced relations between the Asian economic giant and Africa have widened the scope of engagement, accelerating development and economic growth.

"Despite our very different cultures, different strengths; and our geographic and social differences, Japan and Africa have had a strong and steady friendship that has endured over the years," the President said.
The President spoke at a Nairobi hotel during a cocktail party held in honour of Japan Prime Minister Shonzo Abe and other Heads of State attending TICAD.
He observed that Japan and Africa have on each other’s strengths and comparative advantages to boost trade between them.
"You buy our produce and we buy your cars," the Head of State said.
He applauded the increased people to people interactions, saying the move has opened an avenue for Africans and Japanese to learn from one another.

Speaking at the party, the chairman of the Japan-Africa Parliamentary Association Aisawa Ichiro said although Africa faces some unique challenges, its people are working progressively to transform the continent for the prosperity of all.
He thanked President Kenyatta and Prime Minister Abe for the successful organization of TICAD in Nairobi.
