A Kiambu government official is on the spot for allegedly beating and threatening to kill a county driver after he refused to carry a bag of potatoes as ordered by his wife.

Two years ago, the officer was accused of attacking Star newspaper journalist Ng’ang’a Thairu for allegedly writing negative stories about the county. Joseph Kangethe, a county director of enforcement, has been accused by Geoffrey Muhia of beating and injuring him on August 19 on Kiambu-Ruiru road.

Kangethe has denied the allegations, terming the matter “baseless and malicious”. Muhia said he refused to obey the orders of Kangethe’s wife to carry the potatoes into their house in Thindigua.

“She ordered me to carry the bag of potatoes, but I refused because it is not part of my job,” he said. Muhia reported to police and was treated at Kiambu hospital. Medical report shows he suffered a broken jaw and a swollen eye. Kiambu police deputy boss Johnstone Lyambila said he is not aware of the case, but said an OB number and a P3 form bearing the station rubber stamp is a confirmation.
