Support women’s rise to political and executive offices, African women leaders in Nairobi have been told. Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed spoke yesterday at the ongoing African Women Leaders Symposium. She said one of the main challenges facing women’s development stems from inability by women to support themselves.

“Women’s empowerment is not about holding such forums, it starts by us trusting women’s leadership before anyone else can trust us,” Mohamed said. She added that it is pointless to have such a forum if individual women cannot point out what contribution they have made in promoting women.

“We have to vote for women leaders, get courage to elect women senators, governors and even President if we have to bridge the gender gap in politics,” Mohamed said. She urged women executives to give a ‘little push’ to women in their dockets to have more of them in employment and address economic inequalities

between men and women.
