A Kibera court has allowed police to detain a man following suspicion that he killed his wife.

Senior resident magistrate Faith Mutuku directed that the suspect be held for five days, thereafter police should produce him in court for further directions.

Police, through an affidavit, sought 10 days to complete investigations on the death of Rose Wekesa.

"Wekesa's father went to the police station and made a complaint that his daughter was murdered," the affidavit states.

Storum Miheso - her husband - was arrested on Sunday August 21, after the matter was reported.

Police claim that due to the weight of the offence and the nature of complaint by the woman's parents, the suspect cannot be released until investigations are complete.

They further alleged that Wekesa had an argument with her husband before her death.

Postmortem results are yet to be released. Once out, police say they will charge Miheso with murder.

He will be detained at the Kilimani police station.
