Narok Senator Stephen ole Ntutu will not defend his seat. Instead, he will step down to create room for younger brother Patrick Ntutu to run for governor.

The brother is the Narok West MP. The senator spoke during the wedding of his son, Mark Ntutu, at his Nkorinkori home in Narok West. “I have done a lot for my people as Narok South MP and now as senator. I played my oversight role well,” he said.

In 2014, Senator Ntutu and MPs Johana Ngeno, Korei ole Lemein, Moitalel ole Kenta and Patrick Ntutu accused Governor Samuel Tunai of mismanaging the county. Tunai denied the allegations, saying the legislators were pursuing personal power.

Political observers say, however, with the senior Ntutu out of the race, Mara Education Trust chairman Andrew Sunkuli emerges as the front runner.
